Gunsan South Korea

Gunsan is a city of North Jeolla Province on the west coast of South Korea. Home to about 280,000 people, the city administratively includes one town (eup), and 10 districts (myeon) and 16 neighborhoods (dong), occupying a combined area about 681.15 sq km (including the 285.25 sq km-Saemangeum Free Economic Zone). It is about a 30-minute drive from adjacent Jeonju, Iksan, Kimje, Buan-gun and Seocheon-gun (South Chungcheong Province).

As an important port city, Gunsan is also an industrial and international trading hub on the Korean Peninsula. It boasts highly-developed cultural, educational, healthcare and social welfare systems, having established a local branch of the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), a municipal symphony orchestra and a municipal chorus. It is also home to a dozen universities and colleges scattered around its center, including Kunsan National University (KNU), Kunjang University College, Howon University and Sohae College.

Today, Gunsan hosts hundreds of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that are located in the SMD Kundang Industrial Park and national and local industrial parks. Their business activities cover a broad range of sectors, including mechanics, electrical, electronics and food.
